UNDERSTANDING SANATAN DHARMA

the path towards superior intelligence

SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCES PROVING AUTHENTICITY OF ASTROLOGICAL SCIENCES

There are billions of humans on earth and there are millions of other life forms on earth. It is a fact from common observation that the life of each and every individual human being is different. No two individuals have exactly the same life pattern. This is a fact which cannot be falsified by any one. Thus each and every individual leads a different pattern of life. Persons living within the same family may follow a similar pattern for some parts of their lives, but other parts of lives may be entirely different.

We also know that despite all the efforts by most of the individuals, their life does not take the course that they plan for through their life span. A person may put in all his efforts to move in a certain direction, but the chain of events taking place in his life may take him somewhere else. A simple example may be given about the efforts a person makes to earn money. In majority of the cases one will find that the person is perennially short of money, even while he is trying his best to make more money. Similar examples may be given about the person’s inter personal relationships. An average person is always struggling either to make the two ends meet or to improve upon the relationships or to execute certain work in life. Whether he is able to achieve all the above is a matter entirely beyond his or her control.

Similarly we see that many events happen in a person's life may be for the better or for the worse completely irrespective and independent of what the person is doing. But the person's life is grossly affected by these events. For example a person may be moving on the roadside abiding to the laws and good road sense and a vehicle comes from distant somewhere and hits the person and the person therefore is disabled or even killed. Such an event completely changes the life of a person if he survives. That person could have never imagined that such an event would take place on the particular day. Such an event is beyond the person’s control entirely.

According to the principles of Indian astrology a person’s life pattern is decided at the moment he or she takes birth. The positions of constellations and planets at the moment of birth when the person takes first breath determine what the life is going to be. This is an advanced science which everybody knows as Astrology.

How well or how much of fame, money or misery a person will get in his lifetime is thus broadly determined at the moment of birth. In fact all major aspects of a person’s life are thus determined such as physical characteristics, career, money, marriage, and also death. The birth date, time and place of birth are three parameters very important for any person as please note no matter what, these parameters cannot be changed for a person once a birth has taken place. This is also known as the destiny or 'prarabdh' of a person. It is also important to understand that this 'Prarabdh' has not been fixed by the God but is a result of Karma of previous lives.

Scientific Evidences Proving Validity of Astrology as a Science

The modern scientific community is also slowly discovering that human life is connected to the stars, however again to show themselves as being more scientific they are unable to accept the science of astrology openly. After reading the following it is evident that astrology will soon be accepted as a science.

Over the past fifty years, scientists and astrological researchers are discovering a growing body of objective evidence of correlations between celestial positions and terrestrial life. These statistically significant results have been published in peer reviewed journals (including Correlation, a specialist astrological journal). Ironically, some of the strongest evidence has come from experiments backed by sceptical groups including CSICOP.

Vernon Clark's Blind Tests (1959-1970)

Between 1959 and 1970, US psychologist Vernon Clark performed a series of blind matching tests involving a total of 50 professional astrologers. While a control group of 20 psychologists and social workers matched 10 pairs of charts with professions to a level of 50% as expected by chance, the astrologers successfully matched 65%. (Clark 1961) Though this result may not sound significant, the odds of this being a chance event is 1 in one in ten thousand. (p=0.0001) In a later study, Clark removed any possible cues from self-attribution from knowing sun sign traits, by using matched pairs with the same sun sign. The astrologers matched charts to case histories 72% of the time. An even more significant result. (p=.00001) In the final experiment, 59% astrologers were able to distinguish between an individual with a high IQ and one with cerebral palsy. Even this lower result was significant (p=.002) Overall out of 700 judgments the astrologers matched correctly 64% of the time. (p=0.00000000000005 or 5 in 10 trillion). (Clark 1970)

Gauquelin's Data

Gauquelin collected data from over 20,000 professional celebrities from various European countries and the United States. Gauquelin's research detected statistically abnormal diurnal positions of the planet Mars at birth in athletes, Jupiter in actors, Saturn in scientists and the Moon in writers. His tests confirmed an ancient claim of astrologers that planets posited around the four angles are stronger and the characteristics associated with the planet manifests prominently in the individual.

Naturally Gauquelin's tests attracted much controversy.

He allowed independent sceptical researchers to scrutinize his original data. Three committees of rationalist scientists Belgian (LERRCP), American (CSICOP), and French (CFEPP), reviewed and independently replicated Gauquelin's results. CSICOP published their results in The Humanist. The Belgian group refused to publish their study for eight years, in the vain hope of finding a logical explanation for their positive result. The French took a full 14 years. In the end the group dissolved and the work was completed by Jan Willem Nienhuys from the Netherlands. All groups made their data available, but the CFEPP was the only one to publish the full data. The book outlining the study (The "Mars Effect", A French Test of Over 1,000 Sports Champions) [Review]. (Gauquelin 1988) (Ertel 1988) (Müller 1990) (Ertel 1990)     (Ertel 1992)     (Müller 1992) (Ertel 1993)

'The Tenacious Mars Effect' (1996)

by Suitbert Ertel and Kenneth Irving (Urania Trust) "describes the Gauquelin's pioneering work and analyses in detail the attempts by sceptic committees in Belgium, the USA and France to disprove their results. The book highlights the often dubious methods by which hostile sceptics have sought to discredit the Gauquelin's uncomfortable findings and shows that, in fact, much of the evidence is even stronger than previously claimed." (Ertel & Irving 1997) (Ertel & Irving 2000)

Professor Müller's Studies (1986)

A study by Arno Müller, Profesor of Psychology at the University of Saarland, Germany of the lives of 1,145 German nobility over five centuries where records were kept meticulously, showed a significantly higher frequency in infant mortality within the first 15 months (p=0.0004) of birth when Saturn was rising or culminating (Gauquelin sectors) at birth. (Müller & Menzer 1986) [This fits with a traditional interpretation of Saturn rising as difficulties early on in life.] This study might be applied to help understand the mysteries of present day cot-death syndrome.

Kathy Yuan: Are investors moonstruck? Lunar phases & stock returns (2006)

A study in 48 countries over 32 years (402 lunar months) where data is available, showed that stock returns are lower on days around the Full Moon than on days around the New Moon. This result is statistically significant on both a 7 day window (6.9%) and on a 15 day window 5.4% (p=.0009). Another study by Pelc and Bondar (2010), analysts at RBS show among other results that by "moon trading", £ 1,000 in 1928 invested in S&P 500 would be worth £ 1,502,689 in 2010 compared to £ 63,894 if they had tracked the index.

Hundreds of such studies have been done over the years and it is striking that in all the researches astrology has been found to give results exactly in correlation to the lives of thousands of people whose lives were studied and recorded in detail. These are available on the following two websites. Inquisitive reader may enhance his knowledge further by going to these sites.

If we go into the details of the above we will find that all the above were not new discoveries but had been a part of the Indian astrological system understanding from distant past. Only because these were discovered by the western astrologers they are given importance and old Indian knowledge has been discarded as myths.

For example discovery of Precession of Equinoxes is generally attributed to Hipparchus of the Hellenistic era in 200 BC. However, earliest mention of this phenomenon is found in Jyotish Vedang of Indian origin from 700 BC. For the understanding of readers Precession of equinox is the wobbling movement of the axis of earth on which the earth is rotating. Jyotish Vedang mentions this in Chapter IV-4. The name of the text is Jyotish Vedang and this is the earliest available ancient Indian text on astronomy.

Similarly according to the western scientific community the Copernican system was suggested by Nicolaus Copernicus in 1543. For the information of readers Copernican Model says that in our solar system the Sun is at the center and all the planets including the Earth move around the sun. However this very Copernican model is being used by the Indian astrology since time immemorial. The earliest known references are found in 8th to 9th century BCE by Yajnavalkya who was the first to mention the heliocentric system of the movement of planets around Sun. He also was the first to mention that the earth is round, instead of Aristotle as claimed by the modern science. He also calculated the exact period of one year as 365.24675 days. Currently established time is 365.24220 days.

Regarding the discovery of the planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto one may go to the following website:

According to this website Uranus, Neptune & Pluto are also called extra Saturnine planets in Astrology. In Vedic Astrology they are named as Prajapati, Varun & Yam. Though they are far away from our Earth still they have effect on our life for good or bad happenings.
